The August Town Interactive Community Mapping initiative is a pilot project being implemented through the Caribbean Open Institute and multiple partners, that seeks to demonstrate the value of community mapping and open geoData as a means of empowering communities and providing a platform for innovation and entrepreneurship. Interactive Community Mapping (ICM) is a form of self-expression that allows communities to harness local knowledge and model community assets through online interactive maps, that can become an important enabler for Community Tourism. Our mappers are enthusiastic about technology, they know what is going on in their neighbourhood. They love to go out, map and document what is there and how. They are the Enablers of this initiative. The project is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) under the Open Data for Development program.
